​What’s different about Iowa Stage Theatre Company?

 Iowa Stage Theatre Company is one of two theater producers in Iowa who financially compensate our artists and include a Resident Artist Company who helps shape our organization. Iowa Stage Theatre also partners with other arts organizations in the community to offer a variety of theater you won’t find anywhere else in central Iowa.

What is Scriptease?

Scriptease is Iowa Stage's play reading series, which takes place in conjunction with our mainstage shows. Learn more here.

Have you heard about Shakespeare On The Lawn?

Shakespeare on the Lawn is our annual summer tradition. Iowa Stage Theatre Company and The Salisbury House Foundation partner each summer to bring Shakespeare to life in the Salisbury House & Gardens. Performances take place in July. Visit shakespeareonthelawn.com to learn more.

The Stoner Theatre

The Stoner Theater is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Des Moines at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Walnut Street, connected to the Civic Center.

Refreshments

There is a refreshments bar available offering sweet treats, beer, wine, soda, and water. Cash will not be accepted. Our concessions accept debit or credit payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay. You can find more here. 

Dress Code

Come as you are! Shirt and shoes required. All are welcome.

Please follow masking guidelines as directed by Des Moines Performing Arts.

Getting To Your Seat

The Stoner Theater offers open seating. Please enter through the Ticket Office doors on Walnut Street. You will need your ticket scanned before entry, please have it with you or on your mobile device.

Parking

Fourth & Grand Parking Ramp

You may enter this parking garage from Grand Avenue, just East of Fourth Street. Or you may enter the garage from Fourth Street just north of Locust Street.

Free Parking Options

There is limited, free parking on the downtown bridges East of the Civic Center.

Third & Court Parking Ramp

You may enter this garage directly from Third Street, just south of Walnut. This ramp is connected to the Civic Center by Skywalk.

Metered Street Parking

Metered parking surrounds the area, but may include time limits.
