Resident Artist, Actor

Craig Petersen moved to Des Moines in 2008.  A North Dakota native, he attended the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University, where he studied directing and acting.  Since moving to Des Moines, he has been involved in a number of different productions with almost as many companies.  Credits with Iowa Stage and StageWest include: Reefer Madness (Jesus/Jack Stone), Forbidden Broadway (Ensemble), That Championship Season (Tom Daley), Taming of the Shrew(Ensemble), Fun Home (Bruce) , and most recently Melancholy Play (Lorenzo).

Other acting credits included in his top favorites: The Normal Heart (Ned Weeks) with Backstage Noce, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane (Musician and Voice of Edward), Tuesdays with Morrie (Mitch Albom) and Once (Guy) with the Des Moines Playhouse.

When not on stage, Craig also enjoys writing.  He has written for a number of theatre competitions and short films.  He got his start writing short, interactive murder mystery scripts, some of which were turned into full length shows.  Since meeting his wife Kristin however, he has found a joy in writing theatre for children. Lost and Found is a high-energy show about the relationship between an imaginative girl, Georgie and a lost dog she finds while creating a world of magic in the alleyway of her apartment.  It was presented at Grand View University.  Also presented at Grand View was “Turtle Tales”. A retelling of folklore surrounding the importance, mystique, and magic of turtles throughout different cultures.

When not at the theater, he can be found at UnityPoint where he works as a Clinic Administrator, busking in the street, or working as an amateur Uber driver for his daughter.

He is ever grateful for the love and support of his wife Kristin and daughter Grace.
